Theoni Massara is a civil engineer (MEng, MSc, PhD). After her MSc studies in the ‘Water, Soil and Waste Management and Treatment’ in the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris, she was granted a full 4-year NERC PhD scholarship. Her PhD thesis, co-ordinated by Brunel University London and UCL, focused on the development on novel mathematical models for the quantification of greenhouse gas emission and production during the biological nutrient removal in full-scale wastewater treatment. In parallel with her PhD and post-doctoral research, Dr Massara worked as the Project Manager of various H2020 and nationally funded projects with budgets up to €10M which focused on analysing global impacts on surface water quality, developing and implementing low-carbon wastewater treatment technologies, and building and implementing cost-effective, innovative mathematical tools to mitigate the greenhouse gas production and emission during wastewater treatment. Theoni has worked as the H2020 ATLAS Project Manager. She currently serves as the Project Manager of the H2020 iAtlantic Project and the Administrative Project Manager of the ISP Project Office for the needs of the BP project. She is also the Innovation and Exploitation Manager of the H2020 iAtlantic Project.
